Here's some Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need previous martial arts experience to train in Ninjutsu?
Absolutely not. While we have many students with various martial arts experience, we also have students who have never studied martial arts before. You are not required to have any particular previous experience to train in our art or our dojo – beginners are welcome.
Do I need to be in a certain physical shape to train?
Not necessarily. If you can walk, you can train. The art is predicated on being natural movement and something to be utilized for your entire life – not just when you’re in tip top shape. The training itself is also a good workout which will help you get into better shape. If you feel something is beyond what you can do physically, we can show methods on how to adapt it to your particular capabilities.
What are the age restrictions for training?
This has a lot to do with the maturity of the student. In general, younger than 12 years old will require a parent to participate (depending on the student’s demeanor) and students younger than 10 years old are rarely accepted. If a student is very mature for their age, we will make exceptions.
I can’t fit a whole class into my schedule – can I attend part of a class?
Yes. If you are unable to attend a full two hour class, you can attend either the first or second half. When first starting your training, the first hour is the most important. Later in your training, you can begin to come to the second hour. However, you will still be charged the full price of the class.
Are there any contracts?
No. We believe the secret to retaining students is through the experience of training, not locking them into contracts. Students can freely move between memberships to meet their needs and situation. The only thing you need to sign to train is a standard waiver.
How do I choose the right membership?
This can best be addressed through our trial membership. During your month of unlimited classes, you can experiment to determine the best frequency and which classes you’d like to take. Then depending on your budget, simply pick what makes the most sense between how often you want to train vs. how much training you can afford.
We typically advise students who are training 2 times per week or more to consider an Unlimited Package, since it offers a lower monthly tuition and overall savings. Students who average once per week are best served by Class Subscription. Students less than once a week are best off with Pay Per Class tuition.
What do you charge for Rank/Belt Promotions?
We do not charge for rank promotion within the dojo. We only charge if a student requests a “Menkyo” or certificate, since these are ordered from Japan. While we encourage you to purchase Menkyo, it is not required for your training.
Are there any other charges for training?
While we offer training equipment and other services outside the core curriculum, it is not required for training. We feel the training itself is the most important and most valuable aspect of what we offer, and therefore is the only thing you should need to pay for. You are not required to purchase anything else for your training.
